We are looking forward to a great new school year and excited to have your child in class! Working together as a team of students, teachers and parents we will make this a successful. enriching and rewarding fourth grade year.
Reading: Students will have independent reading time and whole group shared reading instruction. Both sides of reading - the academic and the recreational - need extensive emphasis. Reading at home each night is expected and important for growth.
Writing: Our writing uses the Common Core standards for fourth graders. Students will write personal narratives, literary essays, opinion/persuasive letters and a research project.

Fourth graders will receive letter grades in math, science and social studies. The Northville Public Schools Grading Scale is below.

School Day Schedule
Students will enter the building beginning at 8:30 a.m., the first bell rings at 8:41 AM, classes begin at 8:46 AM (one minute earlier than last year) and dismissal is at 3:45 PM.

Back-to-School Forms
Back-to-School forms including Student Code of Conduct, Concussion Form, Technology Use Agreement, Media Release Authorization, Bring Your Own Device, iChat Volunteer Form, and Listserv signup are available to complete online! Parent and student should be present when completing this as there are digital signatures needed. Please complete prior to the first day of school using the following link:

Monday Envelopes
Monday Envelopes will be distributed on the first day of school. They will be filled with important forms that should be completed and returned the next day. This envelope will travel back and forth from school each week with communications from the teacher.

Birthday Celebrations
In accordance with the new non-treat policy within NPS, we ask that if you wish to bring in something for the class, that it is a a non-food item. Ideas could include pencils, stickers, or you can wrap a "birthday book" that you would like to donate to the class library (old or new) in honor of your child's birthday. They can unwrap the book in front of the class.

Help us go paperless! We will have our classroom newsletter via our website to save paper. This website will include important dates, helpful information regarding procedures and instruction, along with a brief summary of what students have been learning in each subject area. Assignment Books and Subject Homework Folder
Assignment Books are one of many tools used to facilitate communication between home and school. Assignments will be listed in the Assignment Book on a daily basis. It should be signed nightly.
Your child will be responsible for bringing home his/her assignment book and subject homework folder each day, completing the homework, and returning it to school the following day.
Snack and Water Bottles
A time in the morning and afternoon will be provided for a nutritious break. Please send healthy snacks with your child each day. Healthy snacks such as fruits, vegetables, yogurt or cheese are preferred. Your child may also bring a water bottle to school each day. Please put your child’s name on the water bottle as many look alike. Research shows that healthy snacks and water are necessary to keep the brain and body running at its best.
Book Orders
Each month your child will bring home Scholastic book orders in his/her Monday Envelope. The due dates will be stamped on the order forms. If you’re interested in purchasing books for your child, you can now order online. Using your credit or debit card, you can place your scholastic book order at www.scholastic.com/bookclubs. If you prefer, you can also send your order to school with a check made payable to Scholastic Book Clubs. Please do not send cash. If you are interested in running this program for our 4th grade team, please email your child's teacher.
